The Impact Your Tongue Has on Bad BreathThere is a great book about Halitosis, the hero dog with the horrible breath, who stops a robber in his tracks with his foul breath and saves his family.

While hero dogs with bad breath sounds great in a children's book, it is not so great for humans. Over 25% of adults have bad breath on a fairly regular basis. If you have bad breath, have you ever thought about the causes of bad breath? One of those causes is your tongue.

Making Sure Your Tongue Isn't The Culprit

There are a couple of ways you can reduce the chances that your tongue is contributing to your bad breath. First, you need to make sure that you are drinking enough water. Water stimulates the saliva production, which helps to cut down on the bacteria that causes bad breath. You can also be sure to reduce the number of sugars and carbs you are putting in your mouth, as they make bacteria explode.

Cleaning that Tongue

One way to reduce the chances you will have bad breath is to clean your tongue every time you brush your teeth- by brushing it. The tongue, especially the back of your tongue harbors those disease-causing bacteria, which means that if you clean it each day, your breath will be fresher. Gently brush your tongue with a soft-bristled toothbrush at least twice a day.

Other Options
If you are having a chronic problem with bad breath, you may want to think about using some other products, including Xylitol. Xylitol does two things to help your tongue and your breath overall. It increases the production of saliva, and it also works to kill that nasty tongue bacteria.
